Ivybridge Walking Club AGM Minutes

Bigbury Golf Club, Sunday 6th April 2025

1.   Welcome by Chairperson

2.   Apologies

3.   Confirmation of minutes of previous AGM – thank you to Suzy.

4.   Matters arising

Jill thanked club and committee for support over the past year.

WhatsApp group has been useful in alerting members to last minute changes/cancellations. Anyone not on the group should email IWCdevon@gmail.com and you will be added.

First Aid kits held by Jan Mc, Jan R

What Three Words (w3w) has been a useful addition to walk information.

5.   Chair’s report

A successful year with lots of new members – welcome!

6.   Treasurer’s report

Subs collected successfully via BACS last year and this method of payment will continue as the primary means of collecting subs.

Account balance at previous AGM £444, current balance £408 with some further memberships outstanding.

Deadline for subs is the end of April 2025 – after this date Fred will update the email list to reflect 2025/26 membership.

Annual insurance £110 – this is the only major expense.

Now have regular expenditure of £4.25 per month for Lloyds bank account. Anyone knowing of a free club account to contact treasurer.

7.   Walk co-ordinator’s report

Thanks to all walk leaders.

Good variety of moorland, coastal and country walks.

New leaders are welcome – no qualification required – good idea to buddy with an experienced walk leader for first walk(s). Always make a Plan B.

Guidance for walk leaders available on website.

Please send walk details by email to IWCdevon@gmail.com. Include distance, type of terrain, brief description, grid reference and w3w location for start point of walk.

Please check with venue if a debrief is planned.

Walks generally start within 1 hour drive of Ivybridge.

Last minute cancellations (x3 this year) for exceptional weather conditions.

Please be aware car share is not guaranteed – apologies if no ride available.

If walk leaders are meeting at the walk start point, please state this on the walk details.

8.   Social secretary’s report

Thanks for attending the AGM today.

Successful year of events including cinema trips, highly competitive skittles evening, Christmas walk and lunch, theatre trips to see Rona, book launch for John Mc, library quiz teams.

This year’s Christmas walk will be on Sunday 14th December 2025 – any ideas for an alternative walk and venue please discuss with Jan R.

Thanks to Rona and Steve for initiating the IWC Drinking Club at the Imperial Pub on alternate Sundays.

Please let Jan R know if you want to join the social WhatsApp group.

Please ensure you pay bar and food bills at Bigbury after the AGM.

9.   Election of officers

Thanks to all committee members for their efforts throughout the year.

All committee members agreed to continue and were re-elected for a further year.

10.   CPR/Defib training

Courses offered by Ivybridge Rotary Club at Unit 8 Gym next to Endsleigh Garden Centre, free of charge.

Next course on Thursday 24th April 2025 at 18:30 – priority places have been reserved for IWC members, please advise Paul if you wish to attend.

11.   MND walk

Sandy is walking 26km of the South West Coast Path in aid of MND in August. If anyone would like details of the Just Giving page, please let Sandy know.
